In a recent statement, the legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar expressed surprise and disappointment that none of the current Indian batsmen have approached him for help or guidance despite making repeated mistakes.

Gavaskar, who has been critical of the Indian batting lineup in the past, offered his expertise and willingness to assist any player who seeks his guidance.

Following India's disappointing performance in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, the Indian batsmen faced widespread criticism. Gavaskar himself was vocal in criticizing their poor show, including superstar Virat Kohli, as the team missed yet another opportunity to end their ICC title drought.

Gavaskar highlighted the importance of self-improvement in batting technique and questioned whether the current batsmen have actively sought ways to address their recurring mistakes. He emphasized the need for players to consider taking different guards, suggesting a shift from a leg-stump guard to a middle and off-stump guard as one possible adjustment.

The cricket legend shared an anecdote about his interaction with former opening batsman Virender Sehwag, whom he personally approached during a rough patch in his career. Gavaskar recommended that Sehwag change his batting guard to the off-stump position, considering his limited footwork. By doing so, Sehwag would be more aware of deliveries outside the off-stump, thereby reducing the risk of reaching for the ball.

Gavaskar clarified that he has no ego and is open to approaching players directly to offer his valuable insights and assistance. However, he refrains from doing so due to the presence of coaches within the team, such as Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour. Gavaskar believes that too much information from various sources might confuse the players, which is why he restrains himself from providing unsolicited advice.

The former Indian captain reminisced about the past, where players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman would regularly seek his guidance. He highlighted the importance of players approaching ex-players with specific problems, allowing for a targeted exchange of observations and suggestions.
